EC Meeting in ELIA - May 2007 Greece

1.Bregrenz AIPS Congress/ Continental meetings
It was agreed staging the Congress in three different countries
was a flawed concept, involving unnecessary travel. There were
also too many presentations. This impacted on the Continental
meetings with not enough time to conduct UEPS business.
2. Beijing 2008 AIPS Congress
The Committee felt the Continental meetings should be
allocated a full working day in order to deal with important
matters. It was necessary to update the statutes, taking
into account the proposal to hold the UEPS Congress every
two years instead of annually in addition to obtaining legal
status in Brussels. Such measures would make it necessary
to have an Extraordinary UEPS Congress in Europe next
year. In future, the UEPS Congress should be held one year
before and one year after AIPS Congresses. It was suggested
it may it may be possible to combine the
Extraordinary UEPS Congress with the 2nd Summer School
for Young Journalists. Treasurer Yannis Daras proposed the
Greek island of Crete as the venue, an idea which was
supported by the Committee in view of the great success
of the inaugural Summer School.
3. AIPS/UEPS Relations
It was agreed there should be more communication

3. AIPS/UEPS Relations

It was agreed there should be more communication between the two bodies and that

UEPS should inform AIPS of future projects in a formal manner. AIPS would then be

unable to claim they had no knowledge of such projects as our 30th anniversary

magazine and the Summer School when asked to provide financial support as had

been common practice in the past. The Committee also agreed in principle to integrate

the UEPS website with the new AIPS website, while retaining the UEPS website address.

However, it was decided UEPS would continue to publish its own magazine.

4. UEPS/UEFA

President Jerzy Jakobsche and treasurer Yannis Daras reported successful discussions

with UEFA Communications Director William Gaillard relating to UEFA's support for

future football seminars. Mr. Gaillard, who attended the opening ceremony of the Summer

School, praised the quality of the previous joint projects. "President Jakobsche said it was

hoped to stage more football seminars in the future.

5. Date of next meeting

It was confirmed that the next UEPS Committee meeting would be held in Zagreb

Nov.2-5. There was also a possibility that the Committee would also meet in Paris

on January 25, 2008 for the 50th anniversary celebration of the USJSF.
